RE: DTV conversion

We used ours this weekend on the Outer Banks of NC. Evenings/mornings we could get Greenville, NC or Norfolk, VA stations with numerous signal dropouts. Most of the day we had our choice of three PBS channels from the local PBS affiliate.

RE: Putnam Class V hitch for '08 2500HD. Are they available?

The link from The Hitchhikers shows the 25189. That hitch appears to be for the long bed, and is the one that the Putnam guy (incorrectly?) told me I needed.
I think:
25182 - short bed
25189 - long bed

RE: Putnam Class V hitch for '08 2500HD. Are they available?

I put one on my 2007 2500HD SBEC (New body style) and I had a heck of a time finding out the right part number. Luckily I got it on the first guess. It was the 25182 for my truck.
AFTER I had already ordered, I found conflicting information on the Internet and finally called Putnam directly and spoke to someone in sales. They told me I had ordered the wrong hitch.
I'm pretty sure they were wrong because it installed w/o any problems and everything matched up.;) I think the other number he gave me was for the 8' bed, not the 6'6" bed that I have.
Anyway, the number I gave you fit my truck fine.
BTW, I did have to shell out more money for a new Equal-i-zer shank because the stock one didn't have enough drop for my application.
Good luck.
Edit: I had to trim the plastic trim on the rear bumper because the hitch fits closer to the bumper than the stock hitch. A sharp Xacto knife and a cleanup with the Dremel and it looks great!

RE: Is this considered full timing?

I saw a small home on wheels like this in a magazine a few years ago, possible Fine Homebuilding. If I recall correctly, the only reason the builder of that home put it on wheels was to get around the square-footage minimum in his local building codes. I suspect that is the only reason these are on wheels, too.
Our home is less than 1300 sq. feet, but I don't think I would want to stay in a home that small very long except as a vacation cottage.
On the other hand, if I were homeless it would look like a castle...

RE: Tow Vehicle Tires

...You cannot beat the ride quality of the Michelins, made the mistake of trying cheaper tires, you get what you pay for, once you go to a Michelin, nothing else seems to measure up in terms of ride quality and tread life.
Chris
I agree. My LTX M/S tires (second set) had 50k on them when I sold the Blazer and they had over half their tread left when I traded it. They were worn evenly and I never rotated them once. I kept my foot in that 4.3L, too.;)

RE: Tow Vehicle Tires

I had the LTX M/S tires on my old 4x4 S-10 blazer. They got me out of a muddy spots on the farm, and out of snow with mud underneath one time. I couldn't complain. The ride was MUCH better than the OEM tires. The tread life was great also. By looking at the treads at the Michelin site I would guess that the AT2 would be better off-road.
The tongue weight should help you some with the weight issue, but gravel is tough for an unloaded 4x2 trying to get a trailer moving. I still remember seeing my Dad trying to move a loaded peanut trailer with his '89 F-250 4x2 in the gravel in the barnyard. The rear end bounced and started digging.
Do you have a limited-slip differential in the rear? If not, you could try putting the parking brake on partially to make the differential split the power more equally. I've used this successfully on cars to get off wet grass and shallow mud.

RE: Towing Accessories

definitely I will, I didn't notice that the shank is not included with the dual cam kit, an extra $90.00. this thing is getting expensive.
Cha-ching! Yes, it does quickly. We bought our trailer last October and went through this process with my wife's Tahoe.
I just bought a new Chevy 2500HD and am going through part of it again, recently purchasing a new receiver hitch and a new shank for the Equal-i-zer. Thankfully I was able to transfer the Prodigy over to the new truck. Also the new truck came with the 'camper' extending mirrors, saving me that expense.
My advice: Pace yourself!

RE: What are the advantages of Apple over PC?

Apple makes beautiful hardware, and they have great products and ideas, but they don't mind making it obsolete with their next new operating system. Innovation and forward progress come at a price.
I have worked on an iMac in a recording studio and there were hiccups and crashes. Many Mac users will deny that this happens, but it does.
The PC world is hamstrung by a desire to be backward compatible, but you have a greater choice of software. Also, PC hardware tends to be cheaper for the same 'horsepower' because there is competition.
Most PC users that I know are still using XP. Most people I have spoken with do not care for Vista. My comment after seeing the Microsoft 'Mojave' commercial was that Microsoft was having to trick people into running Vista.;^)
Like a previous poster stated, it is like the age-old Ford/Chevy debate. They both make great vehicles and they both make lemons. In the end, try them both and see which one you like.

RE: TPMS and new vehicles

My '07 Chevy 2500HD has a reset on the dash using the odometer/tripometer display.
My understanding is this only resets the tire positions, so I don't think it would have any effect on a sensor reporting an incorrect pressure.

RE: STUCK IN SAND @ CORPUS CHRISTI, PADRE ISLAND

Out mantra on the Outer Banks is 'Air Down!'. Drop your tire pressure before you get buried too deeply and you may be able to drive out. Of course, then you'll need more air before you hit the road.

RE: Gadget - 25% more miles per gallon?

Doesn't appear to be a chip. It looks more like an Altoids tin with a blinking LED in it. The following text from the site sounds like 'magnets on the fuel line'...
"When a very powerful magnetic pulse is applied to a fuel supply, it conditions the fuel in such a way that it combines more readily with the oxygen in the cylinder and thus burns more completely when combusted. This enhanced burn produces more power from the same given volume of fuel and exhausts far less pollutants, and it is proven the major part of the exhaust pollution consists of the un-burnt fuel particles. This can be easily and quickly demonstrated using standard emissions testing equipment as used in any garage or vehicle MOT testing station. "

RE: New truck

I'm in the same boat, trying to get 500 miles on in the next two weeks so I can pull the trailer at 50 MPH for a four-hour round trip. I just bought my new 2007 2500HD 6.0 gasser home Friday night and can hardly wait to hitch it up.
BTW, I read my manuals also. You can cheat on the break-in but you're only cheating yourself.;^)

RE: GM Trucks Not Charging TT Batteries

The 40A fuse also was not provided and I had to go to AutoZone to buy one as well. Anyhow, I am glad that it is now done. It took me about 30 minutes, including driving in and out.
Thanks. I was wondering where I was going to get the fuse.
I'm planning to do the work sometime this week. T.S. Hanna kept me inside most of the day.:E

RE: GM Trucks Not Charging TT Batteries

The change is because GM now offers a integrated trailer brake controller on some of their trucks. If your truck does not have the factory controller installed, those wires are probably not connected.
I just brought home my new 2007 2500HD last night and those wires are not connected. I'll connect them as part of the installation of the Prodigy.

RE: Replacing Hitch Receiver on Truck

The only thing I still need to do is set up the wiring plug again since the old plug was mounted to the received. I am thinking about drilling into the bumper and mounting it there like the new Chevys have. For anyone that has done this, where did you get the plug part to mount in the bumper and were you able to just plug the wires back in using the original end on the wires or did you have to splice the wires together?
Thanks,
Mike
Mike,
I used this part to connect to the factory harness without splicing. Of course, this puts my socket under the bumper instead of mounted flush, but it solves your wiring problem.;)

RE: Where to get brake/wheel bearing parts

I bought my bearings, seals, and cotter pins at my local NAPA store. The bearings were better quality than the ones they replaced.
BTW, the NAPA guys had NO reference material for a Dexter 3500lb. axle, but they had no problem matching up the parts by size.

RE: Replace Kitchen Faucet with?

that with single level faucet you open it in split second and adjust the temperature immediately, while 2 knobs faucets take several seconds of water running before you get it right.
This is exactly why I'm looking to change my faucets. I'm tired of filling the greywater tank while I try to avoid being scalded.

What do you need a USB port for?
Some stereos have a USB port so that you can play MP3 files from a USB drive.

RE: Replacing Hitch Receiver on Truck

1. I installed a Putnam XDR.
2. I replaced the factory 7-pin socket with a Hopkins 40955 Ford/GM OE Replacement Harness.
3. I found the Putnam XDR at Amazon with free shipping (was 3-day UPS in my case) and it is cheaper now than when I purchased.
Note: I had to move my Equalizer shank two holes after I replaced the receiver. The XDR is higher than the stock receiver.
Also, I'm not sure that this same model Putnam hitch fits your truck, but it is the proper one for our TV.
Good luck,
Jeff
